One occasion, several dates. The same full moon resolved three ways, a festival on two dates in two provinces of one country, a gazette that disagrees with itself.

A fire festival four days after the new year it precedes
Two Iranian provinces held the same festival five days apart, and one of them had it falling after the event it leads up to. Both dates were symptoms. The fault was a rule that could not express the rule.

One full moon, three answers
Mid-Autumn is a single full moon and our records resolved it to three different dates. One of the three was legitimate. Finding the other two needed no external source at all — a corpus contradicting itself is evidence on its own.

Mawlid an-Nabi 2026: there is no single date
Thirty-seven jurisdictions appoint the Prophet's birthday and they will not all keep it on the same day. The divergence is visible in the laws themselves, before any announcement is made.
